This image comes to us from one of my favorite photographers of not just the night sky but daytime landscape as well, Thomas O’Brien. It was created during the 2012 Perseid meteor shower and it shows 10 or so meteors or fragments from Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle attempting to puncture the atmosphere over Colorado.

This photo gets me pretty excited as this Saturday, May 24 in the hours before sunrise the 1st time event known as the Camelopardalids Meteor Shower will be taking place and estimates range between 200 & 1000 meteors per hour; the high end of that number bringing us into meteor storm level activity. These things are impossible to predict but you can bet I’ll be out there hoping for the best. Look below for some awesome links and congrats to Thomas on a brilliant collection of work.

In the couple days we have to wait here’s Thomas’s “10 Tips For Photographing Meteor Showers.” http://muenchworkshops.com/blog/tips-for-photographing-meteor-showers

In closing, if you want more details on this upcoming event here’s the post I created on it a few weeks back: http://danspace77.com/2014/05/07/new-meteor-storm-this-month-maybe-2/

Currently it sounds like Movable Type is the top blogging platform available right
now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using
